Hi all, this tumblr mainly exists as a way of tracking all the movies I've been watching and some of the initial thoughts, and general feelings, I've had about them.

5/5 - Fantastic movies; movies which need to be seen and enjoyed by everyone.

4/5 - Movies which are very good but don’t have that spark which compels you to make others watch them as well.

3/5 - Average movies; watchable and enjoyable, but nothing which elevates them higher. The baseline all movies are given before watching.

2/5 - Can be watched but really bland and forgettable.

1/5 - Minimal to no reason to watch these films. It may have some redeeming factors e.g. it’s so bad it’s good or there’s one character that’s awesome enough to make it not a total waste of time.

0/5- Total waste of time. Nothing redeemable about these films.

As with every review blog/site, this is all my own personal opinion so feel free to take everything with a grain of salt.

Also I'm Scottish so all reviews will be in UK English. Get used to theatre, colour and words ending in -ised.

#215 A Touch of Larceny
Playboy naval Commander Max Easton (James Mason) falls for the fiancee (Vera Miles) of an old acquaintance. She too, begins to fall for him but casts him away for the more safe and financially secure friend (George Sanders). Easton, then decides to implement a plan he discussed with her in which he pretends to defect to the USSR with top secret plans but instead hides on a remote island in Scotland returning to sue the newspapers for defamation of character after printing he is a traitor.
I really wasn’t expecting a great deal for this one and perhaps this is why I enjoyed it so much. Often, finding a gem amongst the dross is a much more enjoyable watch than all the films which are hyped-up to high heaven.
This is a very neatly contained story with little in the way of padding allowing the viewer to engage fully with the narrative and the small selection of characters within. Mason is just the embodiment of charm and Miles is remarkably sensual while still feeling like a real woman. I’m not surprised to find Mason was considered to play James Bond in Dr No at one point after seeing him in this film. Their relationship was not too dissimilar to that of Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr’s in An Affair to Remember with the major difference being I actually believed the story arc this couple take. It’s also rather funny and has a couple of well placed twists.
A charming older British film well worth a look 5/5
P.S. As if this film doesn’t have enough going for it, the fiance (George Sanders) is the voice of Shere Khan in the Jungle Book. Awesome voice. The icing on an already delicious cake.
