Hi all, this tumblr mainly exists as a way of tracking all the movies I've been watching and some of the initial thoughts, and general feelings, I've had about them.

5/5 - Fantastic movies; movies which need to be seen and enjoyed by everyone.

4/5 - Movies which are very good but don’t have that spark which compels you to make others watch them as well.

3/5 - Average movies; watchable and enjoyable, but nothing which elevates them higher. The baseline all movies are given before watching.

2/5 - Can be watched but really bland and forgettable.

1/5 - Minimal to no reason to watch these films. It may have some redeeming factors e.g. it’s so bad it’s good or there’s one character that’s awesome enough to make it not a total waste of time.

0/5- Total waste of time. Nothing redeemable about these films.

As with every review blog/site, this is all my own personal opinion so feel free to take everything with a grain of salt.

Also I'm Scottish so all reviews will be in UK English. Get used to theatre, colour and words ending in -ised.

#78 Charade
Regina Lampert (Audrey Hepburn) returns home from a skiing weekend to discover her husband has been found dead by the police and her flat devoid of all it’s possessions. It appears not all is as it seems with her late husband. He and his army unit stolen $250,000 in gold during WWII and now the remaining former members want their cut. Regina has been plunged into a world outside her understanding and the only solace she has is in the companionship of an enigmatic stranger (Cary Grant) but can she even trust him?
This film has been called “the best Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock never made” and while I wouldn’t go that far, this is a good solid suspense/mystery film. It’s listed as a thriller/romance/comedy and therein lies it’s shortcomings. It’s attempting to be too many genres at once. It was quite funny, and genuinely had me laughing in places, but it probably would have worked better overall if those moments of comedy were fewer and it took a more serious tone with certain aspects of the film (especially some of the character deaths).
That aside, the story of the film was really quite good with probably as many twists and turns in a movie as I’ve ever seen. There is a character with no less that 5 different reveals about themselves. By the end your not sure who to trust and that makes for an interesting conclusion.
The back and forth between Hepburn and Grant was great in this and is where most of the comedy comes from. They played well off each other and made and interesting couple. When filming Grant was actually quite concerned about the age difference between himself and Hepburn (25 years) and had the writers add some additional sections into the film to illustrate that she was the one pursuing him and he was attempting to be chivalrous. I can’t really see an actor nowadays doing this.
A good film but just a little too goofy in places to make it truly great 4/5.
