Hi all, this tumblr mainly exists as a way of tracking all the movies I've been watching and some of the initial thoughts, and general feelings, I've had about them.

5/5 - Fantastic movies; movies which need to be seen and enjoyed by everyone.

4/5 - Movies which are very good but don’t have that spark which compels you to make others watch them as well.

3/5 - Average movies; watchable and enjoyable, but nothing which elevates them higher. The baseline all movies are given before watching.

2/5 - Can be watched but really bland and forgettable.

1/5 - Minimal to no reason to watch these films. It may have some redeeming factors e.g. it’s so bad it’s good or there’s one character that’s awesome enough to make it not a total waste of time.

0/5- Total waste of time. Nothing redeemable about these films.

As with every review blog/site, this is all my own personal opinion so feel free to take everything with a grain of salt.

Also I'm Scottish so all reviews will be in UK English. Get used to theatre, colour and words ending in -ised.

It’s the near future and human-controlled robots have replaced humans in the sport of boxing. Washed up former boxer Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is now one of these controllers, moving from place to place always trying to scrape together some money. When his ex-girlfriend dies, leaving behind their son Max (Dakota Goyo), he gives custody of the kid to the girlfriend’s sister in exchange for a sum of money and looking after the kid for the summer. When the pair discover an old sparing robot however they come together to fix it, family bonding ensues and, ultimately, gains them a shot at the championship.
I was looking forward to finally seeing this one and it doesn’t disappoint. Jackman is good as ever in his role with Goyo also giving a really solid and believable performance. Anything with child actors in it can be a bit of a gamble given how broad their levels of talent can be, but Goyo stepped up to the mark. There was no point at which I was cringing at his antics or wanting to smack the annoying little twerp. It was just an enjoyable watch from beginning to end.
The motion capture and effects in this were brilliant. At no point did it feel hokey or unworldly. The robots blended fairly seamlessly in with the rest of the film to the point were it almost looked like we already had this tech and somebody was just filming a movie around it.
It was a little cliche in parts and it basically comes down to Rocky meets ‘a boy and his X’ story merged together but there was enough there which held your interest and was performed well. I look forward to the sequel and I might even buy this one on DVD. 4/5
